Ze is een fantastische kokkin! My wife and I decided not to do holiday gifts, and instead spent the night at the Peninsula and had afternoon tea after we checked out.
We enjoyed it tremendously, and the tea was one of the highlights. Each item from the sandwiches to the scones to the desserts, plus the tea was excellent, and the service was friendly and efficient.
It's an extravagance that doesn't disappoint! We booked afternoon tea for 2 and were both expected and welcomed. The ambience was good. Tea selection also good.
Sandwiches a little disappointing to be honest. Not many and not very tasty. The bread was a bit dry. Scones were delicious and warm.
Other cakes were also nice. I think it was over priced but pleasant. We came in while waiting for an event near by, and accidentally ended up there for the afternoon tea.
I've been to those in London but it was my first in NYC. I loved it, great selection of snacks and beautifully brewed tea. Seems like this is going to be a thing to do for us now in the afternoons.
I have been to Gotham lounge many times for drink etc it was a little dead for afternoon tea Picked up in the afternoon but it was family's and seemingly tourist.
It was our children's first high tea. AND the staff was so amazing to me and to my family. One of the most memorable experience.
The hotel staff from the entrance to the coat service Mothers birthday, pleasant cake surprise. Nice tiers of afternoon tea selection.
Nice little lounge to get a quick drink in the heart of town. The Gotham Lounge serves one of the nicest afternoon teas in New York, and I've been to most of them.
The sandwiches are delicious, the service is friendly and discreet, and the kitchen prepares real tea, as in, with tea leaves, in real china pots, with very hot water - essential if you crave a good cuppa.
Tea is served in a gorgeous bar-lounge area at the Peninsula Hotel with a lovely view of a church across Fifty-Fifth Street. The decor is modern, plush, and welcoming - nice and airy, with comfortable seats and couches.
Afternoon tea was wonderful, never had the experience before but glad I got it here. Service was swift and very attentive, everything was very clean and comfortable.
My only complaint would be that the lounge is a little small, once the place fills up it's a little difficult to hear your own conversation because of everything else going on.
Other than that the hotel is beautiful and the ambiance is very cozy. Fantastic for our girls' day sunday tea - the scones were incredible.
Incredible service and ambiance for afternoon tea. Been going there pre-Christmas for 20 years ; Conrado and the staff are superb!
The selection of sandwiches at the afternoon tea is exquisite and elegant. Service is impeccable and so friendly. A true gem for a special gathering during the holiday season in New York.
Afternoon Tea in the Gotham Lounge is such a great way to relax and treat yourself. Amid the hectic life of the city, taking time out for tea is de rigueur and the Gotham Lounge is a great place for it.
The tea sandwiches and desserts came out 45 minutes after the tea was ordered tea was cold by then and champagne was warm. The wait staff was extremely inattentive and we had to wave to get their attention each time we needed something.
I have been there in the past and had a good experience for afternoon tea, but unfortunately not this time. Relaxing ambiance, excellent afternoon tea and gracious service.
Loved the decor and atmosphere. Scones were delicious and served warm. The dessert had been in the fridge so they were sweating when at our table so they didn't taste as fresh as they could have been.
The restaurant let us linger longer than usual without a peep! They even offered another pot of tea at no charge. Service was really terrible.
We are vegetarians and I felt they were not very accommodating. Classy, relaxed elegance with outstanding service and wonderful options for in between dining or afternoon tea.
Wonderful oasis in the middle of NYC. We had called ahead to request a gluten free plate and yet there was no record of the request.
It took quite awhile after the rest of us were served for the gluten free food to arrive. Otherwise tea was good.
We have been to the Gotham Lounge at the Peninsula many times for just a drink, light fare and high tea. Since we were in the city celebrating my husbands birthday and had theater tickets, we decided to go their for a light meal before theater.
I went to their website and made a reservation through open table. Nowhere either on their website or on open tables website does it stipulate that reservations are for high tea only.
When we got to the Lounge and told the hostess we had reservations for 3: We said no, we just wanted light food. She said all the tables were full and she could not seat us at the one remaining reserved table unless we were having tea.
I told her we had a reservation made through Open table, and even showed her the reservation confirmation on my iphone. I said that the reserved table she was holding had to be ours, but she insisted that she did not have any reservations through Open table.
This even though I showed her our reservation. We wound up at another bar in the hotel where the menu was very limited. If the Peninsula is only taking reservations for high tea, they need to clearly state that on their website and also on Open Table as well.
Needless to say, it turned out to be a very disappointing experience. Was a business gathering for 2 for high tea. The food served was so so, as the pastry was unremarkable.
The 'high tea' advertisement was perceived to be more than is was. I would not return for high tea there. More illusion than reality. Excellent afternoon tea spot.
Great scene and fun people watching. The scones were tasty as were each of the 4 sandwiches. The desserts were especially good the chocolate mousse Tarte was just the right ending without being over sweet and the fresh raspberry tart was on point.
We would have enjoyed a refill of our teapots but we never saw our server again once our food arrived.
Overall it was a pleasant afternoon. We went for afternoon tea as a wedding present from friends. The service was wonderful and nothing too much bother.
My husband does not drink tea and so they brought him a pot of hot chocolate which was great rather than just a single cup!
